Ronald L. Lawson (1940-2026), an Adventist Australian sociologist who died on August 3 at his home in Loma Linda, California, revealed a dangerous conformism of the Adventist Church’s leaders in one of his interviews he granted in 2021 to the Zelota Magazine, https://spectrummagazine.org confirmed on August 11, 2026. According to Ronald L. Lawson, the leaders of the Adventist Church tolerate political regimes of both left and right, violating the Christ’s principle “My kingdom is not of this world” (John 18:36). Asked about any qualitative difference in the nature of church alliances with right- or left-wing dictatorships, Ronald L. Lawson even mentioned that the Adventist Church’s leaders would bow themselves down at the soles of the feet of any dictator, if we could use a biblical periphrasis (Isaiah 60:14) of the original uncensored expression.
In addition, the Adventist Church is also known with its compromise that some Adventist church leaderships in several European states, such as Austria, Germany and Hungary, for instance, are part of the World Council of Churches (WCC), while the General Conference of the Adventist Church is not part of this organization (and it was a good decision not to belong to it) which violates another of Lord’s principles written in Hosea 8:4 – “They made kings, but not through Me; they set up princes, but I did not acknowledge them”.
This compromise of the Adventist Church is also a lesson for us as reformers to do everything just as God commands us, according to the Lord’s Word in Genesis 6:22.
