One soul, another Christian of the church at the IMS, was baptized in the city of Cotonou, Benin, West Africa, in the fourth quarter of 2024, Elder Simon Agbey from the Benin Field announced yesterday, Monday, January 6, 2025. The daily temperature in the city of Cotonou, Benin, varied between 24 and 31 degrees Celsius in the fourth quarter of 2024, which is, without doubt, the perfect weather for a Christian baptism.
Cotonou, Benin’s largest city with an official population of 679,012 inhabitants, as of 2012, and over two million people in the larger urban area, serves as the seat of government in the country, while the city of Porto-Novo is the official capital. The name “Cotonou” means “by the river of death” in the Fon language, however, at the beginning of the 19th century, Cotonou (then spelled “Kutonou”) was a small fishing village, and is thought to have been formally founded by King Ghezo of Dahomey in 1830.
