A Christian reorganization conference of the Western Field, part of the Tanzania Union at the IMS, was held last month, on July 16–17, 2026, in the town of Sumbawanga, the capital of the Rukwa Region, Tanzania, East Africa, under the supervision of Pastor Ibrahim Sanga (Union Family Ministries Director) and Pastor Paschal Yohana (Nyanza Field Leader), the Facebook profile IMS Tanzania Union confirmed yesterday, on August 4, 2026. For the new mandate from 2026 to 2029, Pastor James Chamba was elected as Field President, Brother Abeli Kanoni – as Field Vice-President, Brother Gabriel Athanas – as Field Secretary, and Brother Stefano Kwigima – as Field Treasurer, IMS Tanzania Union added.
Sumbawanga (the name means literally “throw away your witchcraft”), a city located in western Tanzania, with a population of approximately 303,986 inhabitants, as of the 2022 census, is part of the territory of the Wafipa Fipa tribe which speaks Kifipa and Kiswahili, the most widely used language of Tanzania. The town has the largest hospital in the region, Rukwa General Hospital, which is government funded, and a local town center agricultural market, as well as many schools and colleges, including four colleges, six secondary schools and a high school.
