With the passing of Inah Canabarro Lucas, the title of the world’s oldest person today belongs to Mrs. Ethel Caterham, an inhabitant of Surrey, England, who is 115-year-old. However, according to the Wikepedia, the oldest person ever whose age has been independently verified is Jeanne Calment (1875–1997) of France, who lived to the age of 122 years and 164 days.
Before Canabarro, the world’s oldest person was the Japanese resident Mrs. Tomiko Itooka who died in January, 2025, at the age of 116. Inah Canabarro Lucas, the great-granddaughter of General David Canabarro, was born on June 8, 1908, in São Francisco de Assis, Rio Grande do Sul, to João Antônio Lucas (1870–1923) and Mariana Canabarro Lucas (1878–1954). Till 1934, Inah Canabarro Lucas taught Portuguese and mathematics in Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro. The destiny of the world’s oldest persons is a confirmation of God’s revelation in Genesis 6:3 – “And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.”
